Specialist, neurodiversity-affirming support for children, young people and adults

Understanding yourself or your child can sometimes feel like trying to piece together a puzzle without having all the pieces.

You may be wondering whether ADHD or autism could explain some of the difficulties you or your child are experiencing. You may be waiting for an assessment, have recently received a diagnosis, or already know that you are neurodivergent but need support with what comes next.

At Mental Care Therapies, we provide specialist, neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed support for children, young people and adults with ADHD and autism.

Our aim is not to change who you are, but to help you understand yourself, make sense of your experiences, and develop strategies that work for you.

How We Can Help

ADHD and autism can affect people in many different ways. Difficulties may be experienced at home, at school, at work, in relationships, or simply in managing everyday life.

Support may include:

  • Understanding ADHD and autistic traits and how they may affect everyday life
  • Emotional regulation and managing overwhelm
  • Anxiety, low mood and reduced self-esteem
  • Difficulties with relationships and communication
  • Understanding sensory needs and differences in processing
  • Managing stress, burnout and emotional exhaustion
  • Developing practical coping strategies
  • Understanding the impact of a diagnosis or discovering that you may be neurodivergent
  • Support for children and young people experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • Support for parents who are trying to understand and respond to their child's needs
  • Exploring the impact of previous experiences, including trauma, rejection or feeling misunderstood

Therapy is tailored to the individual. There is no expectation that you should fit into a particular way of communicating, thinking or processing information.

A Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach

Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming, which means I recognise that neurological differences such as ADHD and autism are part of human diversity.

Therapy is not about making someone appear more neurotypical or asking them to hide or suppress who they are.

Instead, we can explore what makes life difficult, identify strengths and needs, understand differences in communication and processing, and develop ways of managing challenges that feel authentic and sustainable.

We also use a trauma-informed approach, recognising that experiences such as rejection, bullying, misunderstanding, difficult relationships, or repeated experiences of feeling that you do not fit in can have a significant emotional impact.

Support While Waiting for an ADHD or Autism Assessment

Waiting for an assessment can be frustrating and, for some people, can leave many questions unanswered.

You may already be noticing patterns in your behaviour, emotions, relationships, school or work but not yet understand why they are happening.

Therapy and psychological support can provide a safe space to explore these experiences while you are waiting for an assessment.

This may include developing strategies for emotional regulation, managing anxiety and overwhelm, improving self-understanding, and exploring what support might make everyday life more manageable.

Support does not require you to have a formal diagnosis.
